CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Our Gi and No-Gi classes follow a structured format of team warmups, technical instruction, drilling, and live training rounds. Students of all experience levels train together, with instruction and training intensity adjusted appropriately. Every class is designed to build technical skill, confidence, and long-term progression in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Gi Classes

Train in the traditional kimono (gi), where grips on the sleeves, collar, and pants create a highly technical and strategic style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Attire: Gi, belt, and a rash guard underneath.

No-Gi Classes

Train without the traditional uniform, emphasizing body positioning, movement, clinch control, and submissions in a faster-paced environment.

Attire: Rash guard or fitted athletic shirt with athletic shorts (no pockets or zippers) or athletic pants.

Conditioning & Flow

A movement-focused class designed to improve endurance, agility, coordination, and muscle memory through continuous Jiu Jitsu drilling. Students repeatedly practice fundamental movements and techniques before transitioning into controlled flow rolling, where partners work cooperatively without submissions to study movement, timing, and technique in a live setting.

Open Mat

An open training session for drilling, sparring, and additional mat time. Members can work on techniques, train with teammates, or prepare for upcoming competitions.

Attire: Gi or No-Gi attire, best to be prepared for both.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of martial arts do you offer at Brazilian Top Team Charlotte?

Brazilian Top Team Charlotte specializes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi) and Muay Thai. Our BJJ program includes Beginner, Intermediate, and All-Levels classes, as well as Open Mat training. Muay Thai classes are coached by Jhon Ramirez and focus on striking fundamentals, pad work, and conditioning.

All classes are structured to support both new students and experienced athletes in a focused, team-oriented training environment.

Do I need prior experience to start?

No prior experience is required. Many students begin with zero martial arts background.

We recommend starting with our Beginner class or scheduling a Free Intro session. After learning the fundamentals, most students transition quickly into Intermediate or All-Levels classes.

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, wear athletic clothing that is fitted and free of pockets, zippers, or metal. Bring a water bottle.

Gi classes require a traditional Gi (jacket and pants), rash guard and belt.

No-Gi classes require a rash guard and athletic shorts or compression leggings.

Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu safe?

Safety is a priority in every class. Training is structured and supervised, and students are taught proper movement and control before engaging in live sparring. Intensity is always matched to experience level.

As with any physical activity, there is inherent risk, but our focus is on technical training, communication, and controlled rounds.

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes. We offer a Free Intro class for first-time students. This allows you to experience training, meet the coaches, and determine if our environment is the right fit before committing.

Free Intro sessions can be booked online.

How much does training cost?

We offer a range of training options from class passes to unlimited access memberships. Pricing generally ranges from $30 to $250+ depending on the level of access.

Can I sign up for a membership online?

Memberships are finalized in person at the gym. This allows us to review expectations, answer questions, and ensure the right fit for your training path.

Day passes and Free Intro sessions may be scheduled on the website at any time.

Do you offer kids classes?

We do not currently offer a separate kids program.

Students age 12 and older may be eligible to train in our adult classes on a case-by-case basis. This is not a drop-off activity. Training requires focus, discipline, and the ability to participate under the same standards and expectations as adult students.

If you are interested in enrolling a teen, please contact us to discuss readiness and fit.

Do BTT CLT athletes compete?

Yes. Brazilian Top Team Charlotte trains and supports athletes who choose to compete at approved Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions.

Competition is optional. Students who wish to compete receive structured preparation, coaching, and team support. Our training environment emphasizes strong fundamentals that translate directly to competition performance.
